SAS targets 146 schools in SY 2005-2006

It will be a busy year for the SAS team. This school year 2005-2006, the SAS Reading Program will be introduced in 146 schools, 23 more schools than last year. Angeles City and 5 municipalities in Cavite will be the newest reading locations in the Philippines. 40 schools in Angeles City, Pampanga will benefit from the UPS sponsorship. Jollibee Foods Corporation, Convergys and UBS on the other hand, have chosen to sponsor a total of 85 schools in Bacoor, Imus, Indang, Amadeo and Trece Martirez City in Cavite.

SAS Teacher Training Sessions will open this school year on May 20, 2005 with the principals and teachers of 15 Coca Cola Foundation’s Little Red Schoolhouses and 6 schools of Petron Foundation. The participants will be coming from Palawan, Batangas, Negros Oriental, Biliran, Northern Samar, Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon, Saranggani, Davao del Sur, Davao del Norte, Kalinga, Ifugao, Bataan and Apayao.

An estimated 27,240 storybooks will be distributed to 21,855 Grade 4 public school students and 569 teachers and principals will become reading advocates. The SAS Foundation has once again increased the number of reading cities in the country. It has taken one more step closer to realizing its vision of building a nation of readers.
